Common Questions

Casein is the protein derived from non-fat dairy milk. It allows our cheese alternatives to mimic the texture and performance found in dairy cheese. Vegetarians include casein in their diets; however, most vegans generally do not.

Use clean utensils and wash your hands before handling any food products. Keep The Good Health Cheese Alternative® refrigerated and tightly wrapped or in an airtight container. Use within about 7 days after opening.

Our current products contain some casein (dairy milk protein) so they are not dairy-free.

We use as many organic ingredients as are affordably available on the commercial market.

The natural flavorings we use are proprietary. They are highly concentrated dairy derivatives that contain no artificial components and qualify for organic, kosher, and Halal claims.

Product FAQs

Lisanatti® Foods follows specific SSOP’s (Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures) and CGMP’s (Current Good Manufacturing Practices) that are reviewed by an independent 3rd party. Our procedures meet or exceed ODA (Oregon Department of Agriculture) regulations and standards.

We use only raw, organic almonds that are flashed with steam in order to meet current Federal regulations. We keep the brown skins on so you can see almond pieces in every package of THE ORIGINAL Almond® chunks and shreds.

The certified organic annatto in Lisanatti® cheese alternatives is extracted from the seeds of the Achiote plant, a renewable resource that grows in the tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world.

There is no BPA (Bisphenol A) used in our packaging.

The calcium in Lisanatti® products is primarily from the casein (milk protein).

Lisanatti® Foods uses only non-GMO, expeller pressed Canola oil.

Carrageenan is a natural carbohydrate approved for food production since the 1930’s. We currently include food grade (undegraded) carrageenan in our RiceCheeze® Snack Sticks.

The casein used in Lisanatti® products is the protein derived from dairy milk. Vegetarians usually include milk in their diet as a good source of calcium and protein.

There is no cholesterol in Lisanatti® cheese alternatives.

The citric acid used in our cheese alternatives is manufactured from only non-GMO corn.

Non-GMO corn is used to produce the citric acid in Lisanatti® cheese alternatives.

Some ingredients, like oil and water, do not remain well blended. Emulsifiers are used to prevent their separation.

This ingredient is non-GMO potato starch.

There are no animal enzymes used in any Lisanatti® products.

Our flavorings are a proprietary blend of concentrated dairy derivatives that are rBST-free, contain no artificial ingredients, and quality for current natural claims.

All Lisanatti® cheese alternatives, except our SoySation Slices, can be frozen; however, the packaging film is not intended for long-term freezing. If choosing to freeze, we recommend putting an unopened package into an airtight bag or container. After freezing, we recommend the product be allowed to thaw slowly in a refrigerator.

All of our products are gluten-free.

Lisanatti® Foods has been testing for GMO’s (Genetically Modified Organisms) since the mid-1990’s. Independent labs consistently report that our products are free of GMO’s.

Using good sanitation practices, keep all Lisanatti® products tightly wrapped or in an airtight container in your refrigerator at 34 – 38 degrees F. Our products are best when used within 7 days of opening.

The herbs in THE ORIGINAL Almond® – Garlic Herb Style are basil, onion, and oregano.

There are no hydrogenated oils in our cheese alternatives.

There is no iodate or iodine in our products.

None of the ingredients in Lisanatti® cheese alternatives is irradiated.

Our products are made using many ingredients that are Kosher; however, we do not have that certification at this time.

There is no detectable lactose in any Lisanatti® cheese alternatives.

There is no MSG or any MSG-related ingredients in our products.

There are peppers in THE ORIGINAL Almond® Jalapeño Jack. There is some potato starch in SoySation and it is used as a processing aid in all of our shreds.

At this time Lisanatti® cheese alternatives are not 100% organic. The organic ingredients used in making our products are listed on each of the packages.

1 ounce of shredded Lisanatti® cheese alternatives is approximately ¼ cup.

Pasteurization is the process of heating food to a specific temperature and time. Our cooking and cooling processes qualify our products as being pasteurized.

Our peppers are processed under strict third party standards.

We use calcium phosphate and sodium phosphate as emulsifiers in our cheese alternatives.

All Lisanatti® cheese alternatives are preservative-free.

Our products are not considered a “raw” food.

Lisanatti® cheese alternatives are free of all artificial growth hormones. The casein used in our ingredients is sourced from the European Union where the use of artificial growth hormones is banned.

The rennet used in making the casein we use is a vegetable-based product.

Our products contain evaporated sea salt with no YPS (anti-cake) added.

During packaging, we add non-GMO potato starch (an anti-caking agent) to allow our shreds to shake loosely and easily out of the bag. Sometimes, due to shipping and handling, the shreds may settle at the bottom of the bag. Gently shaking the unopened bag should allow them to separate.

Our products have a “Best Before” date printed on every package.

There is no Sorbic acid used in any Lisanatti® cheese alternatives.

UThere are no Trans fats in our products.

Lisanatti® cheese alternatives are not vegan / non-dairy at this time.

A 1-ounce serving contains less than 2% of Vitamin A based on a 2,000-calorie diet.

There is no Vitamin K in our products.

There is no wheat in any Lisanatti® cheese alternatives.

There is no whey protein in any of our products.
